A. Common standard evaluating water quality

1. electricalresistivity

Electricalresistivity is a measurement of the laboratory water conductivity, unit is MΩ-cm,it will increase with the decrease of in organic ions in the water gradually, the standard ultrapure water for laboratory ofultrapure water is18.2MΩ-cm,.

2.TOC (Total Organic Carbon)

The concentration of carbon reflects the content of oxidized organic compounds inthe water, and the unit is PPM or PPB.

3.Endotoxin:

Thecell wall fragments of the polysaccharide of gram-negative bacteria is also known as the"hot source", the unit is cuf/ml.

 

B.Types of water commonlyused in the laboratory

1.Distilled water

It is the most commonly used water in the laboratory which had already remove most of thepollutants but the volatile impurities still remain. Fresh distilled water is sterile while the bacteria are easy to reproduce after storage; In addition, storage containers are also shouldbe selected very carefully, the ions and vessels will be a secondary pollution if it is non-inertmatter.

2.Deionized Water:

Using ion exchange in resin to remove anion and cation ion in the water, but there is still soluble organic remain,  deionized water storage is also easy to cause bacteria breeding.

3.Reverseosmosis Water:

The impurities are trapped and water molecules go through the reverse osmosis membrane , becomepure water under the pressure. Reverseosmosis water can effectively remove salt dissolved colloid,bacteria,virus, bacterial,endotoxin and most of the organic matter inthe water, which overcome the shortcoming of distilled water and deionized water.

4.Ultra-pure Water:

Water electricalresistivity is 18.2 MΩ-cm. However, the ultra-pure water is not identical to the TOC such as on bacterial & endotoxin aspect, which should be determined according to the requirements of the experiment.
